Oryx and Crake. By Margaret Atwood. First American Edition, First Printing. Doubleday. New York, 2003.

$30.00

Margaret Atwood’s MaddAddam Trilogy is a highspot for twentieth century speculative fiction. This first installment, Oryx and Crake, was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize. It tells the story of Snowman, also named Jimmy, who survives a catastrophe that depopulates the planet. Through elegant flashbacks, we learn about the unsettling ways human genetic technology, digital entertainment, and the pharmaceutical industry fractured Jimmy’s social sphere, and ultimately, his society. The novel is perverse, intelligent, and humorous. Atwood’s branch into biotechnology and the post-apocalypse is one of her best.

This first American edition, first printing is in fine condition. In the original half cloth boards, fine. Text block fine. In the original dust jacket, fine.

A fine first American edition.
