Lonesome Dove. By Larry McMurtry. First Edition, First Printing. Simon & Schuster. New York, 1985.

$160.00

Lonesome Dove is Larry McMurtry’s most popular novel, a classic western underscoring the notion that “It’s a fine world, though rich in hardships at times” (McMurtry). It was a bestseller and won the 1986 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, with critics praising its postmodern conventions applied to the western genre. Then in 1989 it was adapted to television as a miniseries starring Tommy Lee Jones and Robert Duvall, which won both critical and popular acclaim. McMurtry went on to write a sequel, Streets of Laredo (1993), and two prequels, Dead Man’s Walk (1995) and Comanche Moon (1997), all of which were also adapted to television.

This first edition, first printing is in very good condition. In the original half cloth boards and spine, very good with only minor fading to spine and rubbing to back board. Text block very good with only some rubbing and foxing to edges. Front endpapers just starting at the bottom hinge. In the original dust jacket, very good with only minor fading to spine and rubbing to edges.

A handsome first edition in very good condition.
