$148.00

John Steinbeck is a titan of American literature. His career saw dozens of book-length publications, dozens of bestsellers, a Pulitzer Prize and a Nobel Prize. The Winter of Our Discontent showcases Steinbeck’s literary genius near the end of his career when he had honed his craft as well as any great author before him. The novel follows Ethan Hawley, an everyman protagonist as many of Steinbeck’s characters are. However, Hawley’s family was once part of the upper crust of society, and so throughout the novel he strives to rise again through political, financial, and criminal means. The work received widespread acclaim upon publication, helping Steinbeck secure the Nobel Prize the following year.

This first trade edition, first printing is in good condition. In the original full cloth boards, very good with only minor fading to edges and small tear to foot of spine. An excellent first trade edition of Steinbeck’s classic.
