Fairy Tales. By Hans Christian Andersen. With Illustrations by W. Heath Robinson. Illustrated Edition. Henry Holt & Co. New York, 1913.

$180.00

The popularity of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales has never waned in the 150 years since publication. His tales are retold and reimagined in film, literature, and art. In this wonderfully illustrated volume, W. Heath Robinson pairs over 80 black-and-white illustrations as well as tipped-in colored plates alongside some of Andersen’s most classic tales, including “The Snow Queen,” “The Little Mermaid,” and “The Ugly Duckling.” The work is widely considered one of the best illustrated volumes of Andersen’s Fairy Tales ever produced.

This illustrated edition is in good condition with 13 of the 16 tipped-in colored plates. Plate four has small closed tear, extremely small. Plate nine is sympathetically reapplied. All other plates are superb. Text block is fine, including all black-and-white illustrations. In the original red cloth boards, very good with only rubbing to head and foot of spine and corners, and some spots to boards.

A scarce illustrated edition of Andersen’s classic Fairy Tales with Robinson’s praised illustrations.
