As You Like It. By William Shakespeare. Cameo Classics Edition. Grosset & Dunlap, circa 1940.

$26.00

Following the character Rosalind as she flees her uncle’s court, As You Like It is a pastoral delight. While often underrated by Shakespearians, the comedy contains some of the Bard’s best themes and characters, including the melancholy Jaques who lives in the Forest of Arden and the juxtaposition of courtly life versus country life. This Cameo Classics edition introduces the play with an informative Preface and Introduction. This copy also contains some interesting ephemera–an original Fox Theatre Programme from February 1951, advertising a production of As You Like It starring Katharine Hepburn.

In the original green cloth boards, near fine with only minor fading to spine. Shakespeare portrait embossed to front board. Top edge dyed black. Text block fine. In the original slipcase, good with tears to head and foot edges, and chips on corners. Original Cameo Classics ephemera laid in. Fox Theatre Programme laid in.

An about fine, antique edition of Shakespeare’s As You Like It. Intriguing Katharine Hepburn ephemera laid in.
