$160.00

Mary Ann Evans, better known by her pen name George Eliot, was one of the most popular authors of the Victoria era. Today she is primarily known for her novels Middlemarch and Romola, but during the 19th century, readers equally admired her poetry. A practitioner of literary realism, her works are defined by their sense of place, their setting descriptions, and their keen psychological insights. This Special Limited Edition of Eliot’s Complete Poems includes some of her best work, including the “Spanish Gypsy” and “O May I Join the Choir Invisible”. It was published by Estes and Lauriat, a fine book publishing company between 1872 and 1898. This edition ranks high among the scarcest of their sets and limited volumes.

Very good in the original faux vellum boards with silver band. Only rubbing to edges and chipping to band. Text block near fine. Deckled edges. Illustrations fine on Japan paper. No date listed. Special Limited Edition stated and numbered on back of the title page, number 152 of only 200 copies.

An incredibly scarce Special Limited Edition of George Eliot’s poems.
