The Thanksgiving Visitor. By Truman Capote. First Trade Edition, Seventh Printing. Random House. New York, 1967.

$25.00

The Thanksgiving Visitor is a children’s moral tale about a protagonist and his bully. It is the sequel to A Christmas Story. Unlike Capote’s novels, these shorter classics draw heavily from the author’s childhood in rural Alabama. In fact, The Thanksgiving Visitor was adapted for television and shot in Alabama with Capote and his relatives in attendance. One of the characters, Miss Sook, is sketched directly from Capote’s older cousin. The story is also dedicated to Lee, presumably Harper Lee, Capote’s longtime friend and author of To Kill a Mockingbird.

This first trade edition, seventh printing, was preceded by the McCall’s Magazine publication, a signed limited edition of only 300 copies, and earlier printings. It is in the original half cloth boards, fine. Black spine variant. With the original slipcase, only minor fading to the corners.

A fine copy of Truman Capote’s The Thanksgiving Visitor.
