Ivanhoe. By Sir Walter Scott. Illustrations by Edward A. Wilson. Collector’s Edition. Easton Press. Norwalk, 1977.

$48.00

A historical novel set in medieval England, Ivanhoe romanticizes the Knights Templar, witch trials, and medieval tournaments. It was first published in 1819, before we established our modern (mis)conceptions of the medieval period, making it a forerunner for a popular genre. Our characterization of Robin Hood, for example, can be traced directly to Ivanhoe. It is one of Sir Walter Scott’s best novels.

This Easton Press Collector’s Edition is in fine condition. Bound in full brown leather with lavish 22k gilt stamping. Raised bands. Orange silk endpapers and bookmark ribbon sewn in. All edges gilt with only very minor rubbing.

A fine collector’s copy of Ivanhoe.
