Fiddler on the Roof is one of the most successful Broadway musicals in history, largely adapted from turn-of-the-century Yiddish playwright Sholem Aleichem’s Tevye the Dairyman, tales about adapting and surviving Jewish life in imperial Russia. The Broadway production went on to win nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Score, and Best Direction. It was also the first musical on Broadway to surpass 3,000 performances, a record it held for nearly a decade. This copy of the original script, printed the year it first premiered, was issued on subscription. The original cast is listed in the opening pages. It also contains photo illustrations from opening night. This Book Club edition, issued in the year the musical first appeared on Broadway, is bright and lovely.
