Pilgrim’s Progress. By John Bunyan. Limited Edition. Peter Pauper Press. Mount Vernon, Circa 1960.
$40.00
The Pilgrim’s Progress is often cited as the first novel in English. Published in 1678, it is a theological journey, dealing with themes of sin, salvation, and religious freedom. It is one of the most widely read texts from the seventeenth century, affecting readers directly and indirectly ever since. This limited edition by the Peter Pauper Press is a spectacular version of the text. It pairs Bunyan’s work with woodcuts printed with gold ink. The woodcuts were redrawn from various editions published around 1700. It subsequently brings the text into the twentieth century, but with illustrations that capture the work as it was produced several centuries ago.
This limited edition is in about-fine condition. In the original quarter cloth, about-fine with only rubbing to spine ends. Text block fine. Former owner’s signature to front free endpaper. In the original slipcase, very good with only chipping and rubbing to edges. One of only 1,950 copies produced.
An about-fine limited edition of Pilgrim’s Progress.
